SSENSE SALE!

Ahhh, summer time. And just in time, SSENSE is having a sale with tons of spring goodies so feast your eyes on the above and prepare to start filling your shopping carts. Behold, the summer essentials:

1. The Return of the Jellies : see what I did there? No? Okay, it was a short sighted attempt at a play on movie titles but never the less, the Jedi wore sandals and I'm sure in the year of space age, they were something as miraculous as these Marc by Marc Jacobs orange and sherbet plastic foot candies. Perfect for poolside and then some because everyone knows that leather sandals and wet feet don't mix.

2. A bright wallet : particularly this one by the beloved French name A.P.C., it makes me long for banana cream pies, rainbow popsicles and lemon flavored ice cubes. Suede in bright colors always makes for a spin on the classic wear, and as long as you remember this summer piece is for non-pool functions only, it's going to be a burst of sunshine every time.

3. The Power Wedge : Chloe, never a wrong shoe ever. A futuristic and minimalist blend of fashion harmony, quality over quantity wins hands down in the land of high fashion ready-to-wear. Sure, they'll cost you a bit of your paycheck but they will be the only wedge you'll ever need and they'll do you well in both rain (silts over puddles) and shine (BBQ anyone?).

4. Let It Be : inspired by the 60's in their latest summer collection, Elizabeth & James, which we know all too well as the Olsen's pet project gone brilliant, has reminded us that going through life with rose-colored glasses isn't all that bad. Especially when they're outlined in gold. *Adds to cart*

5. The Witchy but not Witchy Bag : to me, a bag has got to be meaningful, especially for those of us who prefer to call only a few our own. I find it odd when women collect bags by the dozen- it just seems unfair when you do the math. Bags \  years left to live \ days per month \ appropriate occasions ... what's the point in having so many bags that none will ever get their fair share of wear? So to that end I say, choose wisely. Choose personally. And never under any circumstances, choose trends. Something small, leather, cross bodied, with gold hardware, structured, and with lovely lining will be my next selection. So far, this McQueen has got it all.

6. Statement ring : one thing I've recently discovered about myself- I am a ring girl. More so than bracelets, necklaces, or earrings, a fantastic ring is always the first piece of jewelry that goes on each morning. Though lately I'm thinking thin slivers of gold, I saw this chunky art and immediately thought WOW. Very in your face, and the perfect centerpiece amongst the aforementioned finger slivers.

CRYSTAL CLEAR

Clockwise from left: Christopher Kane, YSL, Chanel, Cheap Monday, misc, Manolo Blahnik, Rodarte, Phillip Lim, Erdem.

It's occurred to me that clear heels and acrylics aren't just for eccentric pole dancing way wards anymore. In fact, the clear trend for wear has made it's way down the runways and is currently running rampant in the Upper East side, down to the storefronts of many a Melrose boutique.

We first saw this in the 70's with the arrival of jellies and plastic ready to wear taking on varying fashion aesthetics in both the homes and on our heads: plastic couch covers, plastic barrettes, PVC sunglasses, etc.

With summer running towards us in every shape and form (am I the only one who slept with opened doors in last night's SoCal heat wave?), I think it's time to embrace the sheer side of things to a new level. Why be demure when it looks and feels so much better putting it all out there at once?

Particularly fond of Cheap Monday's plastic boots. Did I mention that they double as rain guards in April?

SUMMER WISHING COLLECTION

1. Theyskens Theory tank top
2. The Row sunglasses
3. JBrand shorts
4. Altuzurra print pumps

Currently vying for easy pieces topped off with something a little extra! These Altuzurra tropical print pumps are classically shaped, color wheeled, and the perfect blend of vacation and glamour, which we sometimes forgo in the midst of iced cocktails and summer slumming.

In the old days I'd always end up in my college Rainbow sandals and a football tee but nevertheless, chic sophistication for summer soirees remains the golden goal from here on out! I've been eyeing them for the last few months and into the wish list basket they went, but of course, OF COURSE, they sold out within just a few short days after Joseph Altuzurra made fashion headlines for being the newest rising star following Fashion Week.

Le sigh

BUT, not one to wane on the have-nots of life, I always soothe myself by reminding my brain that the heart will always want more as it's a natural part of cognitive state living in a world that creates so much visual beauty. Plus, it's a fantastic way to motivate oneself into productivity and thereby, personal success which inevitability leads to wish list fulfillment. In the meantime, window shopping, collaging and the small splurges here and here are plenty satisfying for me. What's your trick to staving off indulges?

OVER ALLS cover all

1. Miroslava Duma 2 & 3. Wildfox 4. Leandra Medine aka TheManRepeller 5. Garance Dore

The return of the ultimate American cover all, the over alls. I'd like to take this opportunity and remind everyone that I in fact was at one time the queen of wearing over alls back in my middle school days, a time when we had already surpassed the era of Vanilla Ice and Salt N Peppa. I wore them at least twice a week, usually with a Drew Barrymore inspired baby tee and Doc Martens. Though I was ridiculed every time I wore them, I didn't care. And I'm so glad to see the rest of the world embracing them yet again because quite honestly, they look pretty fine anytime.

Cheers to not caring what others think.

SUITING UP ALL IN ONE: swimsuit favorites

Vegas, Hawaii, Palm Springs or just even a slip n slide, that time of year is nearly here and for the first time in 20 years, I'm planning on sporting a one piece. It's already been mentioned to me the certainty of gnarly tan lines but since human leathering and endangering my skin is not on my summer to-do list, I'm definitely okay with going against the grain on this one. The fringe on the La Perla is anything but boring and black croquet takes grandma's knitting for a spin on the wet n wild side. More after the jump!

The cut outs and an exposed backside are just so much sexier to me than running around in a two piece. How many times can you see a variation of the same outfit on person after person before you stop seeing them completely?

What's your take on the one piece?

pinterest SPRING INSPIRATION

Currently: short curls, bright lips, accent pieces.

Pinterest is becoming my favorite tool for organizing photo inspiration, though mostly I do pinning from outside sources as opposed to just re-pinning. Though I would love nothing more than to browse through the millions photos posted, theres just no time as I already spend that time mostly on Bloglovin', Shopbop, and Net-a-porter. You can check other photos on my bulletins here.

This week was a stressful blur. Hoping the end of today will lead to a relaxed weekend. Thinking today should involve smiles, positivity, and an easy outfit. Here's hoping to a successful day!

P.S. It's Friday. Did you get the memo?
