Coachella DIY: LF's studded denim

THE INSPIRATION: LF SPRING/12

  GET THE LOOK:

There's not a whole lot to these shorts but the fact that I made them look exactly how I pictured is still pretty thrilling. LF's spring festival look book is pretty fantastic and you can see it here. I also decided against the raw hem and went with a cuffed version, which are American Apparel by the way. Thinking of how much fun Coachella was when I went last. I think I might have been 23, 24? I still have almost all of the same pieces I wore back then, which proves that festival wear never really ever goes out of style.

Let the good times roll.

LATELY: open knit + acne sandals

Lo and behold, Acne. After months of searching, my ideal spring shoe has made it onto the shoe rack. Seriously, I think I may have very well found the most perfect sandals ever. Buttery leather and red plastic straps with a single button closure. Strange combo, I know, but somehow it just makes for a fantastic summer edge. Hmm, Twizzler bound feet- it's real and happening. Paired them with an old Express skirt from years ago, a vintage Coach bag, and one of the my all time favorite sweaters.

Oh yes, I loped off a bit more hair this time around at Eddy James yesterday. Tracey is unbelievably talented with a pair of scissors and always knows what I'm saying even when I don't. Our conversation is littered with bits of "maybe a bit more" mixed in with "I was thinking that too..." which always makes for a perfect look in the end. I love it when a plan comes together like that.

DIY: studded denim

RackedLA's coverage of LF's spring 12 lookbook BRIGHTER DAZE was an instant must-open-now priority after I spied some very loud, very attractive rainbow coloring. Fun, flirty, and rather like Rainbow Brite chilled out and was transformed into a girl living by the seat of her pants (or incredibly awesome studded denim shorts).

Needs: 1) stud gun 2) 4 packages metal studs 3) high waisted cut off shorts

This has DIY written all over it. Stay tuned as it's just become this week's priority.

CAUTION: WILL PUT SPRING IN STEP

This fall is going to be an awesome season. Why? Because here's hoping every single pair above from the spring collections will be on sale come next autumn. I love them all so much it's scary how much time I allow for visual indulgence. I love the little gold beads on the flats, and the mix of lucite, pastel plastic and leather keep the overall look fresh, not stripper. The chain mesh! Animal print! Thorn studs! And probably the coolest accent ever- tiny skull faces on a nude sandal guaranteed to make your legs look inches longer.

Clockwise from left: Jimmy Choo, Dries Van Noten, Christian Louboutin, Giuseppe Zanotti, Isabel Marant, Donna Karen, Alexander McQueen.

Balmain Spring 2012

I know it's waaay too early to even be thinking about spring but I couldn't resist sharing the spring Balmain collection. Balmain has always been one of those power houses that I watch from afar. And by afar, I mean in dreams since that's pretty much the only time I would ever consider dropping such serious cash. With Spanish influenced patterns, classic skirt silhouettes, and muted but far from banal color palettes, totally thinking that I could replicate this collection with my own version of retail. The denim + high waisted gold skirt wins my heart most of all, simply because it's simple, elegant, and 100% something I would wear out.
